The department of Hindi handles the second language classes for the students of different degree classes who have opted for Hindi. The department had been functioning remarkably well ever since the inception of the college in 1967.
To preserve, promote, and enrich Malayalam language and literature by nurturing intellectually competent, culturally rooted, and socially responsible individuals with creative insight, critical awareness, and human values.
The mission of the Department of Malayalam is to provide quality education in Malayalam language and literature through effective and learner-centered teaching practices. The Department strives to develop linguistic competence, critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills among students while fostering research aptitude, cultural awareness, and literary appreciation rooted in the rich heritage of Kerala. It also aims to cultivate ethical values, social commitment, and lifelong learning that enable students to face contemporary academic, professional, and social challenges with confidence and responsibility.
As part of the FYUGP curriculum, the Department of Malayalam offers a variety of innovative and contemporary courses designed to meet the academic, creative, and professional needs of undergraduate students. The Department provides AEC (Ability Enhancement Courses) that nurture students’ linguistic competence, literary appreciation, and creative sensibilities through Malayalam language and literature. It also offers MDC (Multidisciplinary Courses) that promote interdisciplinary learning by connecting Malayalam studies with diverse fields of knowledge. In addition, VAC (Value Added Courses) and SEC (Skill Enhancement Courses) are designed to equip students with practical skills, ethical awareness, communication abilities, and career-oriented competencies relevant to contemporary society and emerging professional fields.
The faculty members of the Department of Malayalam are dedicated to imparting quality education in Malayalam language and literature while fostering the intellectual, creative, and cultural growth of students. As teachers and mentors, they strive to identify and nurture the unique talents and abilities of students through academic guidance, creative engagement, and personal mentoring. The Department aims to inspire critical thinking, effective communication, ethical values, and a lifelong appreciation for language, literature, and culture.
The Department of Malayalam gratefully remembers the valuable contributions of former faculty members including Prof. George Thomas, Prof. T. V. John, Prof. Sen Pillai A.T., Prof. Vishnuradhan Namboothiri, and Prof. P. A. Dominic, whose dedication and academic service greatly enriched the Department and inspired generations of students. Dr. Mary Reema has been serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Malayalam since 2020.
