The distribution of vermicompost prepared by the Department of Zoology in its own composting units in the college campus, was inaugurated by Dr. R. Bindhu, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala by giving away a packet of vermicompost to Sri. P Prasad, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala on 22.08.2024.

ACTIVITIES DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022 – ‘23

A one day workshop on Water Quality Analysis was organised by the Department of Zoology, St. Michael’s College Cherthala in association with the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Cochin on 29th July, 2022 in the College Seminar Hall.

An invited talk on ‘Gender’ was organised by the Department of Zoology in association with Botany on 15th November 2022 in the College Auditorium

A Career Guidance Programme was conducted in association with UO Tech (Unique Occasio Tech) institute, Ernakulam. The programme held on 17th November 2022 (Thursday) at 10 am in the final year BSc Zoology classroom. This programme offers the best skilling/training service into every student’s life through quality teaching.

Zoology Students Association Day for the academic year 2022-23 was celebrated by the department on 30th November 2022 (Wednesday). The Association named ‘ZEST’ functions in the department with the objective to identify talents, the extra-curricular and co-curricular qualities of the students from the department and promote them.

Career Guidance and Placement Cell of St. Michael’s College in association with IREZ Academy, Kerala conducted a Career Guidance Programme for the students in the Department of Zoology on 19th January 2023 at 11.30 am.

A Reunion of the BSc Zoology 1982- 1985 batch was held in the Zoology Lab on 21st January 2023 at 10 am. The meeting started with a prayer song by Mrs. Annie, an alumnus. 18 alumni from the batch were come to take part in the reunion.

As part of the curriculum study tour was conducted for the final year BSc Zoology students to Thrissur, Wayanad and Ooty during 28.01.202 - 01.02.2023

A gathering of alumni members from the very first batch of BSc Zoology (1976 –’79) was held at Aswani Hotel in Cherthala.

A meeting of parents of I year BSc Zoology batch (2022 admission) was held on 24th February 2023.

A one day seminar was organised by the Department of Zoology, St. Michael’s College Cherthala with the financial supports from Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB), Govt. of Kerala. The Biodiversity Awareness Seminar was organised on 15th March 2023 in the Fenicio Digital Seminar Hall of St. Michael’s College. The keynote speech of the seminar was delivered by Dr. K G Padmakumar, Director, International Research and Training Centre for Below Sea Level Farming. second invited talk was started at 1.30 pm. Dr. Linoy Libini C., Assistant Professor and Head, Fisheries Station, KUFOS, Puthuveypu delivered the talk on ‘Conservation of marine biodiversity by ecological restoration processes. After the invited talks, students did their digital poster presentations related to biodiversity threats and mitigation measures.

A farewell program was organised for the final year BSc Zoology students by the second and first years together on 31st March 2023.

Second year BSc Zoology students participated in Hands-on-training on Amitha Virtual Lab organised by Amritha Viswa Vidyalay in association with Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College.

Ms. Akhila and Ms. Ashna P S have presented works on Environment conservation in the Biodiversity Awareness Seminar organised by Department of Zoology, St. Michael’s College.

Final year BSc Zoology students participated in a workshop on ‘Digital Workforce Management System’ organised by Career Guidance and Placement Cell of St. Michael’s College in association with ASAP, Govt. of Kerala.

Second year BSc Zoology students participated in a training program on Gender Sensitization organised by the college Women Cell.

Some students from Final year BSc Zoology participated in the placement drive organised by the Career Guidance and Placement Cell of St. Michael’s College and four of them were selected for placement.
